We have the internet in our apartment!! It only took a few weeks, a cumulative 20 calls to the company, 3 times stopping into the company
office, and Jackie paying a bribe (some confusion since two installation groups
had been assigned to help us, and we made one work harder to finish). According to Jackie there were two guys, each
about 19 years old, and one went to sit on our couch and “browse the paper”
while the other was like “ok, so what is this worth?”.
When they wouldn’t leave, Jackie said “how
much” and he replied “well it’ll be on your conscience”. When pressing, he said, “I dunno, like the
price of a soda”, so she settled with 20 Bolivianos ($2.80, about 3 sodas). And now, the internet!
